4. Abstract :
How can a few electrons screen many magnetic impurities, the so called " exhaustion problem" is an interesting issue which is supposed to control the physics of heavy fermions in rare earths compounds. It also enters indirectly in the issue of Mott metal insulator transitions, where few charge carriers in a narrow Kondo resonance are acting to screen a large number of localized spins filled in a broad Hubbard band.
In order to explore the exhaustion problem in doped Mott insulators, we investigate the Mott transition of the doped Hubbard model within the dynamical mean-field approach, where the numerical renormalization-group method is used as an impurity-solver. Approaching the critical point from the metallic side, we find characteristic signatures of the Mozieres' exhaustion, including a strongly reduced lattice Kondo scale and a significant suppression of the density of states beside the resonance peak. The fact that similar features are also observed in the low-energy scale of the periodic Anderson model suggests that the physics of Kondo lattices can shed light on the Mott metal-insulator transition.
